The pleasures of pristine nature: Snowshoeing in the Mostviertel region
Striding through pristine nature on big feet: Magical winter landscapes invite you to enjoy extensive snowshoeing tours.
Take the enjoyment of nature, add a little fitness training and a good portion of winter, and the result is one of the most beautiful sports ever: Snowshoeing. The Mostviertel region is a particularly well-suited area for this relaxing activity in the snow. In St. Aegyd and in Lackenhof, you can even book guided tours.
What you need for snowshoeing: Outdoor clothing, waterproof shoes, some level of physical fitness and, above all, the desire to enjoy wintery-white nature in peace and quiet. For instance in St. Aegyd am Neuwalde, where outdoor expert Christa Strametz offers guided tours through the idyllic terrain between Mr. Gippel and Mt. Göller. The meeting point is at the nordicsports academy where you can also rent snowshoes. www.sportstrametz.at
Around Mt. Ötscher
In Lackenhof, situated at the foot of Mt. Ötscher, the ski rental is also equipped for snowshoe hikers. The signposted "Kesselgraben" snowshoe trail leads through snowy forests. A different tour takes you all the way up to the mountain terminal on Mt. Eibenkogel!
Trudging in the moonlight
Even in daylight, snowshoeing is one of the most enjoyable winter sports there is. At night, however, the romantic side of this special activity increases many times over. Full moon and night tours are offered in St. Aegyd am Neuwalde and in Göstling an der Ybbs. The ski school Lackenhof also offers evening tours for interested snowshoe hikers on request.
